Phillip was born in New York City and raised in Allendale, New Jersey. His mother, Celeste (Manfredini), an Italian-American, is a professional still life artist, while his father, Thomas A. Chorba, a Hungarian-American, works as an executive recruiter.
He graduated from St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ, where he participated in football, lacrosse, and powerlifting. He then attended Union College in Schenectady, NY, majoring in theatre, playing college football, and joining the Chi Psi fraternity. Phillip took his first acting class during his sophomore year while recovering from a football injury. He enrolled only because the theatre was close to his dorm, but quickly became passionate about acting.
After graduating, Phillip moved to New York City to pursue acting. He studied improvisation at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre from 2005 to 2008. On September 6, 2008, he married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Olejarz. Shortly after returning from their honeymoon, he met Steve Beauchamp on the set of "Ugly Betty." Steve has since become Phillip’s acting coach and mentor.
Phillip currently lives in Astoria, Queens.
