Roy Minton, born in Nottingham, England, was an English playwright renowned for Scum and his collaborations with Alan Clarke. He wrote over 30 one-off scripts for London Weekend Television, Rediffusion, BBC, ATV, Granada, Thames Television, and Yorkshire Television, including Sling Your Hook, Horace, Funny Farm, Scum, Goodnight Albert, and The Hunting of Lionel Crane.
His plays have been translated and performed internationally and at UK festivals, including a reading of Scum at the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and Gradual Decline at the Riverside Studios, London.
In 2023, Minton's friend, Irish actor and author Eugene O'Hare, facilitated the transfer of Minton's literary archive to Nottingham University Library, where it will be preserved as a permanent collection. The archive contains unpublished novels, an autobiography, and a sequel screenplay to Scum.
Minton had been unwell and passed away on the morning of 17 August 2024 in North London.
