John O'Toole was an Emmy-nominated writer, producer, and commentator across television, film, and radio. He served as the executive producer of the 1980s PBS series "Modern Maturity," which focused on aging. In 1979, he adapted James Fenimore Cooper's "Leatherstocking Tales" into a mini-series for PBS and wrote the 1971 cult film "Who Killed Mary Whats'ername," starring Sylvia Miles.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, O'Toole resided in Washington, D.C. with his wife and two daughters. Known for his quick wit, he was often found sharing his opinions or quietly writing on a legal-sized yellow pad. At 80, he was an enthusiastic blogger and painter. Additionally, he authored crime novels featuring a detective named O'Bannion.
Until his passing in March 2013, he contributed to the Huffington Post and maintained his own blog, "Eli's Observations." He undoubtedly would have had strong views on today's political climate.
