Giorgos Vasileiou was a Greek actor known for his work in theater, film, and television. Raised in Lamia, he took on various jobs as a child to help support his family following his father's death. A talented athlete, he excelled in track and field and played as a goalkeeper for the local football team. At 22, although offered a position with A.E.K. Athens F.C., he chose to follow a career in acting. In 1967, he relocated to Athens to study acting, supporting himself through construction work and taxi driving. He graduated with honors from Giorgos Bellos' Drama School. On November 17, 1973, during the Polytechnic uprising, he met Lia Thermogianni, a law student who would become his wife. During this time, he was arrested and severely beaten by the military junta. The couple married four years later and had two children. Vasileiou shared the stage and screen with prominent Greek artists such as Thanasis Vengos, Rena Vlahopoulou, and Stathis Psaltis. In the early 1990s, he formed a close relationship with director Nikos Foskolos, whom he regarded as a mentor and father figure. Foskolos gave him major roles, including Stathis Theoharis in the daily TV series Kalimera zoi (1993), which earned him widespread acclaim. He was also active in voice acting for dubbing and children's productions and taught at the Drama School of Mary Vogiatzi-Traga. In 2004, he was elected to the Greek Parliament as a New Democracy representative for the B' Piraeus constituency, serving until 2007. In 2011, he joined the Democratic Alliance party. In his later years, he lived permanently on Salamis Island with his wife.
