Amanda Lane launched her career as an acclaimed actress before moving behind the camera to craft bold, nuanced stories she felt were missing—particularly those centered on women. Amanda has contributed to some of South Africa’s most cherished television series and is renowned for creating and writing the first two seasons of the groundbreaking MTV Shuga franchise, which featured Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and reached over 700 million viewers worldwide. She also created, wrote, and directed the critically praised Is'thunzi, which garnered two International Emmy nominations for Thuso Mbedu (The Underground Railroad, The Woman King).
Recently, Amanda co-wrote and directed a young adult romantic comedy for Netflix, slated for release in late 2025, starring Masali Baduza (Noughts + Crosses, Bridgerton).
