Paul Rivers is an actor based in Toronto, recognized for his roles in Chucky (2021), The Boys (2019), 12 Monkeys (2015), Reign (2013), Hemlock Grove (2013), The Transporter (2012), Murdoch Mysteries (2008), and Suits (2011). His extensive acting portfolio also includes work in commercials, theatre, and voice-overs. Recent Toronto stage performances feature Dark Heart, The Goat, The Baby, The Memo, and Much Ado About Nothing.
He holds an Honours BA in English and Drama from McMaster University and an MFA in Theatre (Directing) from the University of Victoria. Paul's experience spans directing, acting, producing, and dramaturgy in regional, fringe, and independent theatre productions. Additionally, he has written play reviews and contributed articles to the Canadian Theatre Review. Paul served as an Assistant Professor in McMaster University's Theatre and Film Studies program for three years, teaching directing and acting. During his tenure, he directed productions such as An Enemy of the People, Pericles, and Possible Worlds. As Associate Director at Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius, he directed Lawrence & Holloman, MindLands, Never Swim Alone, and Whole Lotto Love. In 2003, he directed The Long Christmas Dinner at the Shaw Festival as part of the Directors Project.
Paul co-founded and was Artistic Director of two Hamilton theatre companies: the Scaffold Theatre Project, where he directed open-air Shakespeare productions of Twelfth Night and As You Like It atop a downtown shopping centre; and the Alchemist Theatre, directing works including Kvetch, The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine, Othello, and Glengarry Glen Ross.
