Ivan Krasko, a celebrated Russian actor, is renowned for his powerful voice and exceptional command of the Russian language.
Born Ivan Ivanovich Bakhvalov on September 23, 1930, in Vartemaki, Leningrad province, USSR, he graduated from the Navy School in Leningrad in 1953 and served as an artillery officer in the Soviet Navy. In 1957, he joined the amateur student theatre at Leningrad University. Between 1957 and 1961, he studied acting under E. Time and B. Zon, graduating from the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography. He made his film debut in Baltiyskoe nebo (1960).
From 1961 to 1965, Krasko worked with Georgi Tovstonogov at the Bolshoi Drama Theatre (BDT) in Leningrad. There, he performed alongside prominent actors such as Kirill Lavrov, Tatyana Doronina, Oleg Basilashvili, Alisa Freyndlikh, Lyudmila Makarova, Zinaida Sharko, Valentina Kovel, Innokentiy Smoktunovskiy, Oleg Borisov, Vladislav Strzhelchik, Yefim Kopelyan, Evgeniy Lebedev, Vadim Medvedev, Vsevolod Kuznetsov, Pavel Luspekayev, Sergey Yurskiy, Nikolay Trofimov, Georgiy Shtil, and many others.
Since 1965, Ivan Krasko has been a permanent member of the Theatre of Komissarzhevskoi in St. Petersburg. His stage partners there include Galina Korotkevich, Tamara Abrosimova, Natalya Chetverikova, Natalya Danilova, Valentina Panina, Tatyana Samarina, Elena Simonova, Aleksandr Galibin, Yefim Kamenetsky, Mikhail Khrabrov, Georgi Korolchuk, Stanislav Landgraf, Nikolay Boyarsky, Vladimir Osobik, Boris Sokolov, Peter Shelokhonov, and other distinguished Russian actors.
Honored as a People's Artist of Russia, Krasko has earned numerous awards for his contributions to stage and film. He has portrayed over 50 roles in film and television and more than 100 roles on stage. Additionally, he is acclaimed for his memorable readings of Russian classical literature on various radio programs. His son, Andrey Krasko, and grandson, Jan Aleksandrowicz-Krasko, have also pursued acting careers.
Beyond his professional life, Ivan Krasko enjoys a fulfilling family life with his wife and two sons, Fedya and Vanya. He currently resides in St. Petersburg, Russia.
