Mark Jean is an experienced and adaptable television director who has led over 30 movies of the week (MOWs) in the past ten years and has directed numerous hours of episodic television for major networks. His work also spans independent features, documentaries, television pilots, PSAs, and an interactive exhibit for a prominent theme park. Additionally, he has taught filmmaking at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
Renowned for meticulous preparation, resourcefulness on set, and creative vitality, Mark is well-liked by both cast and crew. By setting high standards and fostering a strong work ethic, he inspires excellence in those around him. His sets are known for being enjoyable, respectful, and efficient.
Mark's longform debut was the critically praised Showtime film Homecoming, starring Anne Bancroft and Bonnie Bedelia. Bancroft earned a SAG nomination for her role, and the film won the Gold Award at the Houston International Film Festival as well as First Place at the New York Film Festival.
His directing honors include the George Foster Peabody Award for a series of Fox Children's Network interstitials; the Houston International Film Festival's Gold Award and the Chicago International Film Festival's Gold Award for the Disney short Who Owns the Sun; and Best Feature Film at the Sprockets Toronto Film Festival for the family comedy Finn on the Fly.
Mark has also written and co-written numerous screenplays, including the historical drama Beast of Bataan for producers Mel Brooks and Jonathan Sanger; Homecoming, which received a WGA nomination for Best Longform Adaptation; A Veteran's Christmas, which he also directed for Hallmark; and the adaptation of the young-adult novel Gemini Summer. As a novelist, his fantasy-adventure Puddlejumpers, published by Hyperion Books, earned Voya's Top Shelf Fiction Award.
More recently, Mark has been directing a continuous flow of MOWs for Hallmark and Lifetime, consistently producing highly rated, well-crafted films delivered on schedule and within budget.
Mark graduated from The American Film Institute on a full scholarship, earning a Master's Degree in Directing. A world traveler and passionate kayaker and paddle-boarder, he holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States and divides his time between Vancouver Island and Los Angeles.
