Natalya Uglitskikh is a Russian film director, screenwriter and producer working across feature films, television series, thrillers and documentary cinema.
She graduated from the Kyiv Institute of Cinema and Television and completed directing studies at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in Moscow. Her short film Pyatnashki received recognition at several Russian and international film festivals, including Kinotavr, Zerkalo and Boulder International Film Festival. Her debut feature film "Na kryuchke"! premiered in Moscow and was later presented internationally.
Uglitskikh has directed a wide range of film and television projects across drama, detective, melodrama, thriller and documentary genres. She is a member of the Russian Filmmakers Union and the Guild of Film Directors of Russia. For more than fifteen years, she has taught directing, dramaturgy and actor-director collaboration at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors and Mitta Film School.
She participated in the U.S. government-funded Open World leadership program, representing Russia as a young leader in culture and creative industries.
In 2025, she wrote the book How to Make Your First Film: From Idea to Premiere, a practical guide to the full filmmaking process. In the book, the author examines in detail all the stages of filmmaking - from the formation of an idea to its implementation on the screen. It covers topics such as genre selection, script development, and organization of the production process.
Special attention in the book is paid to applied exercises that will help the reader to work out the basic skills necessary for the successful work of a director. The publication is based on more than 20 years of teaching directing and drama at GITR, MITRO, VKSR, and the Alexander Mitta Film School, as well as on personal experience in the film industry.
Since 2023, she has headed Natalya Uglitskikh Production Center, developing feature films, series and auteur-driven projects. The center’s current production project is When Ice Breathes. Her current directing projects include New Light and Whisper of the Grass.
