Alex Orbison is a third-generation musician, producer, author, and music publisher, as well as the youngest son of rock and roll icon Roy Orbison.
He began his musical journey at age three with the violin because his hands were too small to hold a guitar. Over time, he learned guitar and piano before settling on drums by the age of eight. At 18, Alex formed the band Backbone with Chris Williams. Backbone toured and recorded for eight years until Chris Williams' untimely death in a car accident led to the band's breakup. After a period of downtime and performing with various LA musicians, Alex teamed up with Cisco Adler (son of Lou Adler) to create Whitestarr, which became the focus of VH1's reality show The Rock Life. He later appeared on Kat Von D's LA Ink.
Today, Alex and his brother Roy Orbison Jr. serve as co-presidents of their family’s enterprises: Still Working Music, Orbison Productions, and Roy's Boys Films. In 2014, Alex directed Mystery Girl: Unraveled, a documentary about his father’s final studio album released posthumously in 1989. In 2017, he directed Black and White Night 30, a tribute concert featuring artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, and k.d. lang.
Currently, Alex is in pre-production on several film projects, including the adaptation of Jim Berkenstadt’s The Beatle Who Vanished, where he is Executive Producer alongside Ashley Hamilton and Chuck Fleckenstein. Through Roy's Boys Films, he has also commissioned a screenplay by Bruce Evans and Ray Gideon for Only The Lonely, the first official biopic about his father.
