David Michán is a Mexican-Canadian director specializing in psychological thrillers and character-focused genre storytelling in film and television.
With more than two decades of experience, he has directed prime-time series for NBCUniversal/Telemundo, including Señora Acero, El Señor de los Cielos, and El Chema, thriving in fast-paced broadcast settings and working closely with producers and network teams.
He studied at Mexico's Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), one of the world's most selective film schools, admitting only a limited number of filmmakers annually.
His feature debut, Adverse Effects (2011), was showcased at over 30 international film festivals and earned multiple awards. Critics praised it as "a stunning feature debut," highlighting his distinctive visual style centered on psychological tension and character-driven storytelling.
After moving to Canada, Michán broadened his expertise into visual effects, contributing to projects like Yellowjackets, enhancing his skills in tone, atmosphere, and cinematic world-building.
Most recently, he directed the independent psychological horror feature The Girl Inside the Photograph (2025), which delves into themes of trauma, identity, and perception. The film premiered at Dances With Films: New York and attracted attention from genre-focused outlets such as Film Threat.
His feature screenplay Eat Me has garnered recognition from prominent international genre festivals and programs, including Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and The Black List.
