Marcia Mitzman Gaven earned a TONY Award nomination for her role as Mrs. Walker in the Broadway hit The Who's Tommy, directed by Des McAnuff, and received acclaim from music critics for her "show-stopping performance" on the Grammy-winning Broadway cast recording. Throughout her Broadway career, she starred in Chess, directed by Trevor Nunn, where she originated the role of Svetlana (featured on the Broadway cast album), played The Widow in Zorba, portrayed Rizzo in Grease, and appeared in Cy Coleman's Welcome To The Club. Her Off-Broadway credits include Audrey in Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's Little Shop Of Horrors. At Lincoln Center, opera legend Beverly Sills discovered her and invited her to star in several New York City Opera productions as part of their Broadway Show Series. Marcia received critical acclaim for her roles as Nellie in South Pacific, Meg in Brigadoon opposite Tony Roberts, and became the youngest actress to play Mrs. Lovett at age 25 when Harold Prince cast her in Sweeney Todd. Los Angeles audiences know her for her lead role as Mother in Ragtime, directed by Frank Galati, which earned her the Ovation Award for Best Lead Actress. She also starred opposite Roger Rees as Abigail Adams in 1776 at Reprise! In Los Angeles, she won both the Ovation Award and the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Lead Actress playing Florence in Chess. She portrayed Charlotte in A Little Night Music at the Doolittle Theatre under Gordon Davidson’s direction and originated the role of Mrs. Walker in La Jolla Playhouse’s successful production of The Who's Tommy before taking it to Broadway. On screen, she appeared in the feature film Moonlight Mile with Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon and worked on the editing floor of The Bonfire Of The Vanities starring Tom Hanks. Her television guest appearances include Frasier, Ellen, Babylon 5, The Drew Carey Show, Beverly Hills 90210, with recurring roles on The Bold and the Beautiful and the 1995 Get Smart remake as the villainous head of CHAOS opposite a giant Komodo dragon. Her extensive voice-over work features animation roles such as Maude Flanders, Helen Lovejoy, Luann Van Houten, and Miss Hoover on The Simpsons, along with numerous commercials and radio spots.
