Anais Reboux was just 13 when director Catherine Breillat discovered her at a McDonald's. Despite Reboux having no acting experience, Breillat took an interest and arranged a screen test. The first test did not go well, but Breillat insisted on a second attempt after realizing the original casting director had mishandled Reboux. Eventually, Breillat had Reboux and another girl re-tested, reading scenes from Rohmer's Pauline à la Plage. As they began to converse, Breillat saw that Reboux wasn’t merely reading lines; she was truly connecting with the material, which led to her being cast as the lead in Fat Girl.
