Marc Collins-Rector is an American entrepreneur, writer, and producer who emerged as a pioneer in the early days of internet video and digital streaming networks during the dot-com boom. He is best known in the entertainment space as a creator and writer for the groundbreaking 1998 online series Chad's World, a project that stood among the earliest attempts to distribute episodic narrative content specifically tailored for the internet.
Collins-Rector's career in technology and media began with the founding of early ventures like World TravelNet in 1984 and Concentric Research in 1991, an early internet service provider that expanded nationwide. Leveraging his background in network infrastructure, he co-founded the Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) in the late 1990s alongside Chad Shackley and Brock Pierce. Under his leadership as chairman, DEN aimed to revolutionize broadcasting by creating a digital, multi-channel streaming platform focused on youth culture and teen-oriented content.
At its peak, his visionary approach to digital media attracted major corporate partnerships and substantial financial backing from leading global technology and media corporations, including Microsoft, Intel, and NBC. Although the network ultimately faced severe financial challenges and liquidated during the broader dot-com market crash, Collins-Rector's work with DEN and Chad's World remains a historically significant milestone in the technological evolution of online streaming video.
