Sergey Ovsepyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia. He graduated from the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University with a degree in Film Directing, completing his studies with the diploma film The Great Illusion, and later received a degree in Producing from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow.
Over the course of his early career, Ovsepyan worked in different areas of the film industry in order to understand the profession from multiple perspectives. While studying, he took part in the work of numerous film festivals and was eventually involved in twelve international and regional events. His festival experience shaped his lasting interest in audience development and in making cinema more accessible to the public.
He later worked at Soyuzmultfilm as a line producer on the animated series The Squared Zebra. Alongside his work in production, he has continued researching Armenian cinema, a field that remains central to his professional focus.
At present, he is producing the short animated film New Year’s Eve.
