Pekin Ibrahim, also known as Mohd Iznan bin Ibrahim, was born on October 25, 1981, and is a Malaysian actor. He gained recognition for his leading role in the Kelantanese dialect film Bunohan (2012). His filmography includes Di Ambang Misteri (2004), Cinta Terakhir (2009), Skrip 7707 (2009), Al-Hijab (2011), Paku Pontianak (2013), Cerita Kita (2013), Coverina (2015), Kampung Drift (2016), and Volkswagen Kuning (2016).
Pekin is best known for his performances in Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah (2010), Rock Ooo (2013), Lagenda Budak Hostel (2013), Tokan (2013), Apokalips X (2014), Ophilia (2014), Villa Nabila (2015), Juvana 2 (2015), Mat Moto (2016), and Munafik (2016).
He won his first Malaysia Film Festival award for his role in Mat Moto: Kami Bukan Mat Rempit, earning the Best Actor title at the 2016 festival, surpassing nominees such as Shaheizy Sam, Zizan Razak, and Aaron Aziz.
Born in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Pekin began his career working at A&W Restaurants in Subang Jaya after moving to Kuala Lumpur in 1998 at age 16 with his best friend to pursue acting. While working at the restaurant, he auditioned for roles in dramas and films, dedicating himself to improving his English and reducing his strong Kelantanese accent.
Initially, Pekin took on supporting roles in films. His debut was in Di Ambang Misteri (2004), directed by Silver Chung. He also appeared in Cinta Terakhir (2009) by Along Kamaludin and the horror film Skrip 7707 (2009), directed by Prof Madya A. Razak Mohaideen.
His career gained momentum with a role in the horror comedy Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah (2010), directed by renowned Malaysian filmmaker Mamat Khalid. In 2012, Pekin starred as Bakar in Bunohan, directed by Dain Said, where he spoke in the Kelantanese dialect, reflecting his roots.
In 2013, Mamat Khalid cast him as the lead in the comedy Rock Ooo. Pekin's prominence grew further with a role in the sci-fi film Apokalips X, also directed by Mamat Khalid. He appeared in Ophilia (2014), directed by Raja Mukhriz Raja Ahmad Kamaluddin, portraying a member of a skinhead group.
In 2015, Pekin starred in the horror film Villa Nabila, directed by emerging Malaysian director Syafiq Yusof. The following year, Syamsul Yusof cast him as a lead in Munafik, which grossed approximately RM 19 million within two months.
2016 marked a significant year for Pekin as he ventured into directing with his films Mat Moto and Volkswagen Kuning. That year, Mat Moto earned three awards at the 28th Malaysia Film Festival: Best Original Story, Best New Actress for Falisha Crossley, and Best Actor for Pekin himself.
