Micole Diana Mercurio was born in Chicago on March 10, 1938, to Mary and Michael Mercurio. As the firstborn of her generation and a beautiful child, she thrived with the love and support of her extended Italian-American family. Her father, a former captain in the Italian Army, enlisted as a private in the American Army to serve his new country and provide for his family. Her mother was a working woman. Micole grew up, married a local man, and had four children. Tragically, one child was lost to SIDS. Despite this heartbreak, she remained resilient, facing further hardships before eventually moving west.
In California, she took on various jobs to make ends meet. She worked at a magazine, did temporary legal assistant work, and pursued her passion for acting. Studying under Milton Katselas, she interned in lieu of tuition. She accepted every role offered and persevered through much rejection. In 1980, Hollywood was not kind to women over 40. With her big blonde hair, radiant smile, and captivating presence, she soon earned her AFTRA and SAG memberships. She taught ESL to adults in the evenings and auditioned during the day. Micole continued performing in theater, channeling her emotional experiences to add depth and range to her craft.
After retiring from film, television, and theater, Micole mentored emerging actors. She coached new talent and kept teaching, volunteering at a rehabilitation facility despite long commutes. Known for her warmth and extraordinary talent, she touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
