Wendy Gorling is a Canadian actress, choreographer, and movement coach. Gorling's heritage is Scottish and Norwegian on her mother's side and Austrian on her father's side, and she was raised and continues to live in Vancouver. She is a graduate of École Jacques LeCoq in Paris, France, where she developed her expertise in physical theatre and movement. Gorling has taught at Studio 58 for 40 years, demonstrating her commitment to guiding young Canadian theatre artists. Her career spans multiple disciplines within the performing arts, encompassing acting, choreography, movement coaching, and theatre education. Gorling is known for her work in Heretic (2024), The Last of Us (2023) and The Overcoat (2001). She co-created, with Morris Panych, The Overcoat - A Musical Tailoring, which toured internationally, establishing her as a significant creative force in Canadian theatre. Her choreographic work includes movement direction for major productions such as Moby Dick, Trojan Women at the Stratford Festival, and various Vancouver Opera productions including Susannah, Sweeney Todd, and The Overcoat - A Musical Tailoring. She has also provided movement choreography for Pericles and The Winter's Tale at Bard on the Beach, and The Waiting Room for Arts Club. Gorling has garnered six Vancouver Jessie Awards for her contributions to theatre, recognizing her excellence in the performing arts community. She served as movement coach for Pacific Opera Victoria's productions, including The Flight of the Hummingbird and the 2012 production of Verdi's Macbeth. Gorling is an inductee into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame, cementing her status as a significant figure in Canadian performing arts. Her work extends beyond regional theatre, having served as movement choreographer for the Stratford Festival's production of Frankenstein and contributing to various national and international productions throughout her career.
