When I began this journey into film my goal was to work on Spirit-led projects that reflect God's movement within the inner conflicts of humanity. God is revealed in our Love, in our Pain, in our Failures and in our feats. In developing the story line to my second film 'A Ball & A Dream', my goal was to create a story with bringing all those elements together. To reveal how those characters could overcome or succumb dealing with trivial circumstances. For example, in the film, Malik Hall is the NBA's number one draft pick. He seems to have the world at his fingertips. But with all the endorsements, fame, money and attention; which is what everyone wants. Malik experiences insecurity about his inner self worth and begins to doubt his playing skills. This happens when Malik run into a fellow hooper who appears to be a threat. That threat, Elijah (Eli) Taylor a former 2 time Division I National Champion. Eli has become a local streetball legend amazing fans with his whitty and flashy basketball handling. The thing that was also puzzling to many, "if he's this good, why is he here?". Eli was on the path to be the NBA's number one draft pick a few years ago. But while he was at State playing basketball, he was still dealing with financial pressures back home. Eli took money from a booster to point shave in a tournament game. The school found out anonymously and dismissed Eli from the program ending his dream of becoming that number one pick. Eli's desperation arises from poverty. In this desperation he reacts with a "by any means mentality" not taking into account right or wrong. I use scripture to tie their circumstance to their outcomes. This past spring, my friend and business partner Marko Cirjak introduced told me about Major Salomon's story and thought it would be a great project. I'll confess, I was intrigued but it would be a departure from what I would normally gravitate towards. After meeting Major Gerard Salomon with his son Jared, he told his story face to face. I was instantly captivated. I had produced biographies and documentaries before but nothing with this historical importance, it felt different. I can feel the Spirit moving in Major Salomon's heroic actions during the coup de 'tat. I can see it moving in Madam Trouillot's story. Her whole life seems to have guided her to this moment. Over coming mountains of doubt as a women President in a male/military dominant country. Madam Trouillot successfully held the first democratic elections in Haiti in 1990. Leading me to understand all her battles gave her a resilience. Perhaps this same resilience was at work and strength while she sat under the gun of Dr. Roger LaFontant.
