Dora Romano was born near Naples, Italy, and graduated in sociology in 1979. In 1980, she earned a degree from the Bottega Teatrale di Firenze, the Vittorio Gassman Acting School. She performs in both English and Italian. Dora trained in theater with Jerzy Grotowski, Elizabeth Kemp, Dominic De Fazio, and Ivana Chubbuck, studying in Italy and the United States. Her first professional role was directed by Otomar Krejcha in Aeschylus's "The Suppliants" at the Syracuse Greek Theatre. She then spent two years with Eduardo de Filippo's company. Dora has worked under various Italian directors in classic comedies by Goldoni, Molière, Euripides, Plautus, Gabriele D'Annunzio, and Jean Anouilh. In 1991, she met Ermanno Olmi, who cast her as Mrs. Gibbs in Thornton Wilder's "Our Town." Over her career, she has captivated audiences in Shakespearean comedies such as "Macbeth," "King Lear," and "The Taming of the Shrew" (BBC Television). Other notable roles include Martha in Goethe’s "Doctor Faust," directed by Glauco Mauri, and Mrs. Sarti in Bertolt Brecht’s "Life of Galileo." Dora is also a talented singer, having performed in musicals including "Cuore Ingrato," a musical monologue; "She Loves Me" (2000); "Gianburrasca" (2004); "Sister Act" (2011, as Mother Superior); "Titanic" (2012); "Il Marchese del Grillo" (The Marquess of Cricket); and "Mary Poppins.
