Lia Tarachansky is a journalist and filmmaker. For eight years, she served as the Israel/Palestine correspondent for The Real News Network (TRNN), where she worked as a one-woman crew investigating, interviewing, filming, and editing over 200 documentary shorts.
After TRNN, Lia founded Naretiv Productions in Canada. She directed and filmed four feature-length investigative yet poetic documentaries for BBC World, TeleSUR, and Naretiv, as well as a range of experimental shorts, virtual reality, and augmented reality projects. Her work has toured the festival circuit, earning awards for Best Short Film and Best Woman in Film, and has been screened in more than 20 countries.
In addition to her filmmaking, Lia teaches cinematography at several film schools in Toronto. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring camera techniques, experimenting with visual language, and finding innovative ways to create friendlier, more inclusive process on film sets. She is fluent in Russian, Hebrew, and English, and has a working understanding of French, Arabic, and Portuguese.
