Anne Leigh Cooper is a European filmmaker and activist based in New York City. She debuted with the short film "Where There Is No Light" in 2008, inspired by the true story of her sister who was a victim of sex trafficking. She continued creating short films with empowering themes, including "Anti Woman" (2013), "Stockholm Syndrome" (2014), and "A Caged Innocence" (2014). In 2014, Anne produced her first feature film, "Snowflake," which earned 17 awards and 11 nominations at festivals worldwide. This was followed by feature films such as "Dick and Jack" (2015), exploring unique father-son relationships; "Benji the Dove" (2017), a tender story about four boys dealing with school, bullying, friendship, and loyalty; and the documentary "Feminism in Nicaragua" (2017), presenting parallel perspectives of feminists before and after the Sandinista war.
In 2018, Anne co-produced a documentary with Canal+ about two African American men wrongfully accused of murder titled "Innocence," as well as "The Forgotten People of Kashmir," an undercover documentary exposing human rights abuses in the disputed region. In 2020, she produced the narrative feature "On a Dark Night in Moulton County," along with reality shows "Swiped," which focuses on empowering women across three generations to connect and find love through a dating app, and "Cooking with Strangers." In 2021, she produced "CLOUT" and "Erase Me," and in 2022, she produced "My Heavenly City," "Clementine," "Home Team," and contributed to the period drama "The Thing With Feathers."
Anne Leigh Cooper is currently developing a narrative TV series titled "2" and her debut feature narrative film based on a true story, "The Monster That Stayed," which follows a woman navigating bureaucratic challenges while reporting a rape during a politically charged era. Beyond filmmaking, she is an international public speaker, including delivering a speech at the United Nations on eradicating human trafficking. She served as Executive Director of the Give Freedom Fund at ICV, where she identified and allocated resources to small and medium-sized initiatives fighting human trafficking globally. Anne Leigh Cooper aims to fuse activism and media to mainstream social issues while educating audiences worldwide.
