Fuad Alakbarov is an Azerbaijani-Scottish political commentator, journalist and photographer. He is the founder and director of the Caspian Circle. Alakbarov has also written for The Jerusalem Post, The Jamestown Foundation, openDemocracy and Daily Sabah.
Early life and education
Alakbarov was born in Baku in 1988. He attended Cleveden Secondary School in Glasgow. In 2012, he graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with BA Hons Management, Technology and Enterprise degree.
Career
His involvement in politics accelerated in early 2014 during the Scottish independence referendum.
In 2017, he played a key role in Scotland's recognition of the Khojaly Massacre.
In 2024, Alakbarov founded the Caspian Circle, a strategic communications consultancy working with organisations, brands, and institutions to shape narratives, manage reputation, and build influence across the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and international media landscapes.
Alakbarov is a member of the Royal Society of Asian Affairs and a member of the Shusha Global Media Forum.
Photojournalism
Alakbarov received his first camera from his father at the age of 13. He is passionate about capturing life and how it interacts with, adapts to and alters the immediate natural environment. On an artistic level, he is drawn towards street photography, the urban landscape and conceptual photography. In 2018, his photos was exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow. In 2023, a major retrospective of Alakbarov's work was held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Alakbarov's photography has been influenced by Bruno Barbey, Daido Moriyama, and Masahisa Fukase.
Personal Life
Alakbarov is an avid supporter of Neftchi Baku.
