Tallie Cochrane was a spirited, attractive, and highly skilled frizzy-haired brunette, often cast as tough, hardened characters in a series of gritty softcore films and delightfully campy drive-in exploitation movies throughout the 1970s.
Born Lillian Rose Cochrane on October 7, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, Tallie was raised in Alabama. Her father served as a doctor and administrator at the county hospital in Greensboro, Alabama, while her mother came from a Southern aristocratic background. She studied dance for about eleven years and spent three years teaching alongside her instructor. Tallie began acting at age four in stage productions at the University of Alabama and continued performing on stage until she was sixteen. At 24, she moved to Hollywood and started her film career in the late 1960s. Some of Cochrane's most notable roles include playing the unhinged, Mansonesque flower child cult member Ruth in The Love-Thrill Murders (1971); the ruthless lesbian convict Kat in Five Loose Women (1974); an ill-fated hitchhiker in Al Adamson's Girls for Rent (1974); the tough hippie Donna in The Centerfold Girls (1974); a brutalized prostitute in Matt Cimber's gritty blaxploitation film The Candy Tangerine Man (1975); and Jane in the bawdy comedy Tarz and Jane and Cheeta (1975). She often collaborated with her actor husband Patrick Wright in films such as Changes (1970), Only in My Dreams (1970), Sassy Sue (1973), Tanya (1976), The Amorous Adventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (1976), If You Don't Stop It... You'll Go Blind!!! (1975), Dan's Motel (1982), Frightmare (1983), and Emanon (1987). Additionally, Cochrane served as associate producer on the raunchy teen sex comedy Hollywood High (1976) and worked on makeup for Eroticon (1971), The Cheerleaders (1973), Sassy Sue, Track of the Moon Beast (1976), and Falling in Love Again (1980). Beyond her film roles, Tallie also lent her voice to commercials and voice-over work.
She passed away at the age of 66 on May 21, 2011, in Panama City, Florida.
