Born Kusti Miettinen in Branau am Inn, Austria, Vimma grew up in an international and academic household. However, by his early 20s, Vimma worked as an AD through the IT boom in Helsinki’s trendy Punavuori neighborhood in the Late 90s and early 2000s.
Through his years and experiences in the industry as an AD, Vimma wrote his debut novel "Helsinki 12", which came out in 2004. Helsinki 12 was a major cultural phenomenon, which sparked immediate praise and controversy, mostly due to the content, from vigorous language, wild drug stories, cultural references and self-irony.
It has been described as a Bret Easton Ellis -style work, and was listed by Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat at place 92. of the 100 greatest novels in Finland since 2000.
Since then, Vimma has gone on to publish 7 more novels. Two of them set in Paris, three that discuss the Finnish construction industry and a few that focus on Vimma’s specialty, gastronomy, such as Gourmet (2008).
Additionally, Vimma has worked as a food critic, cook and columnist. He is married to Finnish master pastry chef, Jenni Tuominen. Together they offer cooking lessons from pastries to classic French cuisine.
