Throughout his career, Mark Farrell has produced, directed, and written across various formats and genres, with a focus on comedy, music, biography, and social awareness. His work includes more than a dozen feature films and hundreds of hours of television. Notable credits include producing the pilot of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Off the Record" featuring Bono, The Edge, and Ringo Starr for HBO, producing and directing "Ben Stiller's Comedy Roundtable" with Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, and Bill Hader for Epix, two seasons of the single-camera sitcom "Z-Rock" for IFC, and two seasons of the Nick Cannon Show for Nickelodeon.
Farrell has also executive produced and post-produced 11 A&E biographies, including those of Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Aniston, Green Day, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Recently, he expanded into theater directing, having completed four productions so far. He formerly led Comedy Development at the Oxygen network. Currently, Farrell is engaged in writing and directing a documentary, crafting a play and a screenplay, and hiking as much as possible before the upcoming production season begins in full.
Coming from a family with a four-generation comedy heritage, Farrell's great-grandparents were vaudeville performers. His grandmother, Glenda Farrell, was a celebrated feature and Broadway actress known for her comedic roles, and his father, Tommy Farrell, was a stand-up comedian and comedy writer who contributed to shows featuring Jackie Gleason, Red Buttons, Red Skelton, and Lucille Ball.
Farrell began his producing career in commercials for clients such as McDonald's, Ford, and the Olympics before transitioning to music videos for artists like The Black Crowes, Diana Ross, Jackson Browne, David Lee Roth, Barbra Streisand, Tom Petty, and Chris Isaak. He also worked extensively in comedy with talents including Howie Mandel, Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Black, Patton Oswalt, Patrice O'Neal, Joan Rivers, Eddie Griffin, and Paul Mooney. He was part of the team that created the Screen Actors Guild Awards and produced numerous series and specials for Comedy Central, HBO, NBC, Fox, Showtime, VH1, and others, earning Cable Ace Awards for "The A List" with Richard Lewis and "Coming Home" with Jackson Browne.
On the social consciousness front, Farrell has produced and directed projects for Dr. Jane Goodall, Pathways to Peace (an NGO at the UN), Indigenous Peoples Day, and various fundraisers and benefit events supporting important causes whenever time permits.
