Yuliya Borisova is a distinguished Russian actress affiliated with the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow, renowned for her portrayal of Ambassador Kollontay in the 1970 film Posol Sovetskogo Soyuza.
Born Yuliya Konstantinovna Borisova on March 17, 1925, in Russia, she studied acting at the Shchukin Theatrical School of the Vakhtangov Theatre from 1944 to 1947, graduating under the tutelage of Boris Zakhava. In 1947, she debuted on stage as Hero in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing and as Julia in Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Since 1947, Borisova has been a member of the Vakhtangov Theatre troupe in Moscow, performing alongside prominent actors such as Mikhail Ulyanov, Mikhail Astangov, Ruben Simonov, Boris Zakhava, Vladimir Etush, Varvara Popova, Irina Kupchenko, Natalya Tenyakova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, Marianna Vertinskaya, Nina Ruslanova, Alla Kazanskaya, Nikolai Plotnikov, Vasiliy Lanovoy, Yuriy Yakovlev, Vyacheslav Shalevich, Andrei Abrikosov, Grigori Abrikosov, Boris Babochkin, Nikolai Gritsenko, Nikolai Timofeyev, Aleksandr Grave, Evgeniy Karelskikh, Sergey Makovetskiy, Viktor Zozulin, Evgeniy Knyazev, among others. Notable stage roles include Anisia in Na zolotom dne by Mamin-Sibiryak (1955) and Cleopatra in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra (1971). Since 1963, she has delivered acclaimed performances as Princess Turandot in Vakhtangov's legendary production of Carlo Gozzi's comedy Princess Turandot.
Borisova was honored as People's Artist of Russia in 1961 and People's Artist of the USSR in 1969. She received the State Prize of Russia twice (1966, 1985), was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1971, and named Hero of Socialist Labour in 1985. The Supreme Theatrical Prize of Moscow, called the "Crystal Turandot," was established in her honor, with Borisova as its inaugural recipient in 1991.
