Barnabas Reti gained fame in Hungary for his leading role as Erik, a romantic bad-boy, in Barátok közt, the country's top TV series. Born in 1982 in Szeged, Hungary, Barnabas was initially recognized for his exceptional drawing and painting skills, with many expecting him to pursue a career as a painter or graphic artist. As a teenager, he created illustrations for local newspapers, but his true passion for acting and film led him to attend drama school after turning 18. He moved to Budapest to study acting and began working in various theaters. His first film role was cast by Peter Greenaway, portraying a young fascist soldier in a movie shot in Hungary. He then had a minor role in Being Julia, directed by Oscar-winning Hungarian director István Szabó, playing Bruce Greenwood's gay lover.
After three years of intensive stage training in Budapest, Barnabas traveled to the United States to take an acting for film course at the New York Film Academy. Upon returning to Europe, he founded his own theater company, Noir Színház, with fellow young artists. He made a critically acclaimed directorial debut with Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, in which he also starred as Tom, the poet. The production toured Romania and Hungary, receiving excellent reviews. Subsequently, he was offered a three-year contract on Barátok közt, Hungary’s most popular TV show, which brought him nationwide fame.
While maintaining his status as a well-known TV star, Barnabas continued acting on stage in dramas, comedies, and musicals, working consistently with his theater group and becoming a dynamic figure in Budapest’s underground theater scene. Their production of Stephen King's Misery, featuring him as the male lead, became a major success, moving from a small studio to the Karinthy Theatre, a prominent Budapest venue. He has portrayed a wide range of characters across genres, from drama to comedy. His final Hungarian stage role was the title character in Albert Camus' classic Caligula before relocating to London to pursue international opportunities.
In London, Barnabas played the notorious murderer Krytian Bala in Sky Vision’s upcoming TV crime-docuseries Killers - Behind the Myth. He also worked with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and appeared in American network series. Currently, he stars in NBC Universal’s Emerald City and is filming the British feature Three Dots and a Dash, playing the lead villain Vogler Kassir.
