Biografia
Frank Dimen was born in Hamburg to shipowner Ludwig Dittmers and Martha de Bachelle. The Dittmers family has resided in Hamburg since 1282, maintaining continuous involvement in shipping since 1642 and contributing to the arts as silversmiths and notable artists (with works in museums in Hamburg and Copenhagen) since 1584. Between 1934 and 1935, he traveled extensively through Central America, Cuba, Haiti, Santo Domingo, Curaçao, and Venezuela.
He relocated to Berlin with his friend Gert Fröbe and began acting under the direction of Gründgens and Paul Günther until 1939. From 1940 to 1941, he performed with the Klinge Bühne Front Theatre in Norway, then continued in France, where he became a member of the French resistance in Bordeaux. In 1945, he co-founded NDR alongside Peter von Zahn and others, writing over 60 radio broadcasts. Between 1954 and 1966, he worked as a director and dramaturg at Deutsche London Film, Playhouse Studio Reinhard Mohn, and Deutsche Film Hansa.
He co-managed the production of over 80 films, including "Die Brücke," "Der Dritte Mann," "Stalingrad," "Waldwinter," "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" with Gert Fröbe, "Anastasia," and "Hunde wollt ihr ewig leben," among others. In 1958, he married actress Karin, who lived in Berlin at the home of his longtime friend Grete Weiser. From 1984 to 1996, he was active as an international mediator between East and West.
