Biografia
Tim Oliehoek (born 1979) entered the Dutch Film and Television Academy at just 18 years old, having already completed his first two-and-a-half-hour action film, BUY OR DIE, before starting his studies. Demonstrating a remarkable talent for filmmaking early on, Tim garnered significant media attention for his past and upcoming projects. He graduated in 2001 with the film ISABELLE, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Dutch author Tessa de Loo. This film was nominated for a Tuschinski Award and won a Student Award at the USA Film Festival.
In 2002, Tim followed up with THE CHAMP, which was nominated for a Student Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Since graduating, he has directed numerous commercials and short films. His television film 15 35 SPOOR 1 was nominated for the Prix d'Italia and broadcast on Dutch National Television by BNN. Despite his work in short films, Tim remained driven to fulfill his childhood ambition of directing full-length feature films.
In 2005, Tim made his feature film debut with VET HARD (English title TOO FAT TOO FURIOUS), which enjoyed success both in theaters and on home video. Between 2006 and 2007, he directed 18 episodes of the national television series SHOUF SHOUF, based on the 2004 film SHOUF SHOUF HABIBI!. The series won the Spanish Premios Ondas award and was nominated for the European Rose d'Or award. His second feature film, SPION VAN ORANJE (English title SPY OF THE QUEEN), a spy comedy starring well-known Dutch comedian, singer, and actor Paul de Leeuw, was released in Dutch theaters in February 2009.
The feature film PIZZAMAFFIA, based on a novel by Khalid Boudou, premiered in February 2011. His fourth film, CHEZ NOUS (English title QUEEN OF AMSTERDAM), a romantic comedy written by Frank Houtappels, was released in theaters in early October 2013.
In late 2014, Tim released his first family film, THE AMAZING WIPLALA, adapted from the book by renowned Dutch author Annie MG Schmidt. The film was well-received by critics and earned The Golden Film Award in December. WIPLALA was nominated for a Rembrandt Award, won the Golden Audience Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival in California, was the top winner at the Ale Kino! on Tour festival in Poland, and was a favorite at the festivals in Giffoni, Toronto, and Zlín. At the India International Children's Film Festival in Mumbai, the film received two awards: Best Picture and Best Director.
In 2016, Tim directed the three-part television miniseries THE MENTEN CASE, based on the true story of journalist Hans Knoop’s investigation into the not yet convicted war criminal Pieter Menten. Set across the 1930s, 1940s, and 1970s, the series received critical acclaim, attracted over 1 million viewers, and won a Dutch TV Award, a Director's NL Award, a Nipkow nomination, a Rockie Award in Canada, and was the Dutch submission for the 2017 American Emmy Awards.
Tim is currently working on the film adaptation of the book THE SECRET DIARY OF HENDRIK GROEN. The accompanying 12-part series starring Kees Hulst and André van Duin premiered on Dutch television in October 2017.
