As an actor, he has appeared in numerous independent films, including Another Day in Paradise, The Beat (Sundance), Blues, and Shanghai Kiss. His television credits include Dirty Sexy Money and The List, both aired on ABC. On stage, he has portrayed roles such as Macbeth in Macbeth, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Tom in The Glass Menagerie, and Danny in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. He has shared the stage with Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Adams, Sandra Oh, and Zachary Quinto, and was praised as "outstanding" by Backstage West for his role as Joe in the world premiere of Robots vs. Fake Robots at the Powerhouse Theater in Los Angeles.
As a playwright and performer, he has received widespread acclaim for his solo work and collaborations with Sekou Andrews. HBO invited them to perform their play, No Easy Choice, at the 12th Annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Their acclaimed play The Word Begins, originally developed at the Ojai Playwrights Conference, garnered three Helen Hayes Award nominations and received rave reviews. The production has captivated audiences nationwide, notably at Signature Theatre, Yerba Buena Center, South Coast Repertory, and the renowned New York Public Theater. It also headlined the inaugural LA RADAR festival, where the LA Times called it "...a masterpiece." His highly successful one-man show, 40 Days, directed by Tony-nominated director Kristen Hanggi (Rock of Ages), was lauded as "breakneck, mind-boggling theatre," earned multiple critics' picks, and was named Best Solo Performance of the year by Entertainment Today. His performance in the short film Downsizing won him the Best Actor award, and URB magazine recognized him as one of the "100 Faces To Watch." His latest solo production, Against Oblivion, was staged at South Coast Repertory as part of their new Studio Series.
Furthermore, by blending poetry, comedy, and acting into a transformative and unique experience, he has become a powerful and compelling speaker for companies, organizations, and non-profits seeking to engage and inspire their audiences with tailored presentations. Featured on ABC World News, Good Morning America, HBO Def Poetry, and other platforms, he has created work for prestigious organizations such as TEDMED, NIKE, Sony/Universal, Pioneer Electronics, Farmers Insurance, and Gap Inc., as well as for distinguished figures including Oprah Winfrey, James Cameron, Norman Lear, Julie Taymor, and Quincy Jones. Notable private performances include Oprah Winfrey's celebration of Maya Angelou, the Quincy Jones Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Marion Anderson Gala honoring Maya Angelou and Norman Lear; as well as special events for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (requested by Quincy Jones) and President Obama (requested by Oprah Winfrey).
"Transit Space," a Music Center co-commission, is a collaboration with visionary choreographer Jacques Heim and the world-renowned Diavolo Dance Company. Following its Los Angeles premiere at the Broad Theater, it was performed at the Greek Theatre and continues to be featured regularly in theaters and festivals worldwide. Currently, his work appears on PBS as part of the docu-series Shelter Me, and he was recently honored with a commission to create a new piece for South Coast Repertory.
