Daniel Axt is a German actor, voice artist, and musician, recognized for his roles as Nick in Disney's "Rock It!", Jannik Anders in the German TV series "Forbidden Love," and Jürgen Neuhaus in the 2008 film Die Brücke.
Born in Langenhagen in 1991, Axt began acting in Hanover in 2005. At 13, he enrolled in the acting school TASK. After submitting a tape from a camera acting class to the agency TASK, they noticed his talent and signed him at 15. He has remained with the same manager for over a decade. Between 2007 and 2008, he appeared on the German TV show crime.de and soon after starred in the Die Brücke remake alongside Franka Potente.
In 2009, at 17, Axt landed the lead role of Nick in Disney's "Rock It!", earning a nomination for the New Faces Award for Best Actor. The film's band, also called "Rock It!" with Axt as lead singer, performed at festivals before disbanding. From 2009 to 2010, he signed with the FC Norden 02 agency. In 2010, he began voice acting, dubbing the German voice of "Hiccup" in Paramount Pictures' How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and its sequel in 2014. He also provided the German voice for "Winston" in The Maze Runner film series.
After graduating from school in 2011, Axt moved to New York City to improve his English and study acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, where the Meisner technique is taught. Invited back for a second year in 2012, he completed the two-year full-time acting program in 2013.
Before returning to Germany in 2013, he performed in Jeffrey Sweet's play "Cover" as Marty and Murphy Guyer's "Loyalties" as Rudy at the Rita Morgenthau Theatre in NYC. He also appeared as "Wining Boy" in August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson" and as Eric in Jason Katims's "The Man Who Couldn't Dance" at the Signature Theatre Off-Broadway.
Axt began playing guitar at age seven, taking lessons for seven years and developing songwriting skills early on. In 2012, he connected with musicians with whom he released his first EP, "54th Street," in September 2014. At 22, he directed the stage adaptation of "Rock It!" for a theatre production at Berlin's Kurfürstendamm. Featuring a cast of 70, including orchestra, band, choir, and ensemble, the production premiered in March 2015 and was restaged in September/October 2015 and June 2017. Between 2011 and 2017, he appeared in various German television shows, TV movies, and shorts.
