Singer and actress Tasha Scott is poised to reclaim the spotlight with the official launch of her music career. Raised in Louisville, KY, Tasha discovered her passion for singing at the age of eight after winning a talent show. She honed her skills by performing in local talent shows and events. Growing up as the only girl among five siblings, with a single mother working two jobs, Tasha's brothers pursued sports while she remained determined to break into entertainment. At ten, her family relocated from Louisville to Hollywood, CA. "I had performed all over Louisville, meeting many notable people and winning numerous talent shows. Moving to a major city like Hollywood was the next step to fulfill my dreams," Tasha recalls.
Once in Hollywood, she developed a love for acting and began auditioning for TV roles. Her first opportunity combined her two passions—acting and singing—when she appeared as a choir member in two episodes of NBC’s sitcom "Amen," starring the late Sherman Hemsley. She continued to build her resume with performances on "Star Search" and guest appearances on shows like "227" and "Throb," the latter featuring a young Paul Walker. Her television success paved the way for her first film role in the 1989 hit "Troop Beverly Hills," starring Shelley Long. She also starred in the TV movie "Kiss Shot," playing the daughter of Whoopi Goldberg’s character. Additional TV roles followed on "Full House," "Quantum Leap," and "Under One Roof," a sitcom starring James Earl Jones and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Tasha’s breakthrough came with the 1994 Fox sitcom "South Central," where she portrayed the sassy younger sister of Andre, played by Larenz Tate. The show also featured Maia Campbell, Star Jackson, the late Lamont Bentley, and a young Jennifer Lopez. Though the series lasted only one season, that year she also appeared in a memorable Coca-Cola commercial.
In 1996, Tasha had a recurring role on the WB’s "The Parent Hood," starring Robert Townsend and Reagan Gomez-Preston. That same year and the next, she toured the U.S. starring as Dorothy in the classic stage production "The Wiz," alongside Grace Jones, Peabo Bryson, CeCe Peniston, and Tony Terry. Earning rave reviews, Tasha reflected, "That was my first major stage play. Theater was different from sitcoms where you can call 'cut.' On stage, you have to keep going." She loved traveling, the press, and knowing she followed in the footsteps of Diana Ross and Stephanie Mills who also starred in the production. Despite her success in TV, film, and theater, music remained her true passion. She signed with Michael Jackson’s now-defunct label MJJ, an imprint of Sony Music. Although an album was never released, Tasha appeared on the Men of Vizion single "Joyride" in 1996 and released various songs online over the years to engage her fans. "Music has always been essential to me; it’s helped me through so much. Whether R&B, Pop, Rock, Country, Gospel, or Jazz, music is the blueprint of my life," she says. A voice like hers is rare.
In 2011, Tasha officially returned to music with the powerful ballad "Gone," featured on the VH1 reality show "Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business" soundtrack. While not released as a single, the song reignited interest in her talent. Looking ahead to 2014, Tasha prepares to release her long-awaited debut album in the second quarter via Zania Music Group (ZMG). The lead single, a mid-tempo, sultry track titled "Touch Me," features Berto. "With this song, I wanted to show my grown and sexy side, expressing that love can be classy, sexy, and fun all at once," Tasha explains of the single she co-wrote with Anthony Saunders. Her musical influences span legends like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, SWV, Charlie Wilson, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion, Adele, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Joe, Ne-Yo, LL Cool J, Tupac, Busta Rhymes, Aaliyah, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, and many more.
Describing her sound, Tasha states, "My music is Urban Pop with lots of soul and a touch of Hip Hop. It’s straightforward and to the point." For her debut album, she has ambitious goals: "I want my music to be heard worldwide and to have a #1 single and album that people can relate to and love. I aim to tour, headline my own shows, and collaborate with amazing producers and writers." While music takes priority, acting remains important to her. "I’d love to star in an action-packed movie and have my own TV show that runs for at least ten years," she shares. Another dream is to work with Tyler Perry and star in a touring stage play about her life and beginnings in the industry.
Reflecting on her journey, Tasha says, "My career has been a fun and incredible experience. I just want to become the star I was meant to be. Being famous has always been my biggest dream. I want the world to love me… just for me!
