Of Kikuyu descent and born in South Carolina to Kenyan parents who came to America for higher education, he started pursuing acting at the encouragement of his drama teacher, Candice Williams. In 2009, Nagi landed the role of Josh Gattis in the 20th Century Fox film The 5th Quarter, a football movie shot entirely at Wake Forest University. He delivered a strong performance alongside Ryan Merriman, Aiden Quinn, and Andie MacDowell. Since then, he has appeared in other films such as the 2020 civil war drama Emperor. He also portrays Craig Hansen in the television series Games People Play, which airs on Black Entertainment Television (BET), appearing in Season 2, Episode 5.
In 2018, Nagi guest-starred as military operative David Anderson in a Season 5 episode of the action series NCIS: New Orleans on CBS.
One of his latest projects, premiering October 1st, 2021, is the Blumhouse vampire horror film Black as Night, available worldwide on Amazon Prime Video. In this film, Nagi plays the Nigerian vampire Tunde and performed all his own stunts after training for the role.
