Jeff Wolverton grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and was expelled from notable high schools like Upper Arlington. He earned multiple degrees at The Ohio State University, where he also designed animations for stadium scoreboards nationwide in an effort to remain in college indefinitely. He then relocated to Los Angeles to join Walt Disney Feature Animation as a digital artist, contributing to "Hercules," "Tarzan," and surprisingly, serving as a scratch voice actor in Disney's "Dinosaur." Jeff later worked at various studios on a remarkable number of superhero films, ranging from the acclaimed (three "Spider-Man" movies, two "Deadpool" films), the average ("Daredevil," "Aquaman," a couple of "X-Men" films, "The Flash"), to the perplexing ("Green Lantern"). His career advanced from FX Artist to FX Lead, then FX Supervisor, and eventually CG Supervisor, whatever that entails. Believing he could write movies, Jeff penned the screenplay for the animated feature "Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists," which featured voices by Brendan Fraser, Leonard Nimoy, and Mark Hamill, still considered the best film ever starring those three actors in an animated movie starting with the letter 'S.' Now recognized as a screenwriter with a remarkable sense for capitalization, Jeff quickly sold several unproduced—and likely never-to-be-produced—screenplays. He has pitched feature ideas to Disney, Sony, Fox, and various smaller studios. Jeff wrote, pitched, and revised the Academy Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated short film "The ChubbChubbs!," where he also voiced the titular characters, a role he reprised in the sequel. He then unexpectedly ventured into stand-up and improvisational comedy, performing on stages across Los Angeles, London, Vancouver, and Toronto (where he often gets lost). Jeff continues to create visual effects, write screenplays, perform comedy, and delights in referring to himself in the third person.
