Known as the "Ambassador of Country Music," Shawn Parr has dedicated over 20 years to the Los Angeles country music scene. His involvement extends from hosting radio shows to television appearances and active participation in the Academy of Country Music.
In August 2006, thousands of fans rallied to bring country music back to their local airwaves after KZLA-FM changed formats. Shawn Parr was the on-air personality during the format switch. Within three months, Southern California welcomed a new country station, and five months later, Parr returned as the anchor of the new station.
Currently, Shawn Parr is the morning host on KKGO’s show "Shawn Parr with Ashley Paige" (Ashley Paige previously co-hosted the KZLA morning show). You can listen to him Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM, and on Saturday nights from 7 PM to 10 PM on "Shawn Parr's Number 1 Show." GoCountry 105 became the flagship station and first affiliate for this show, produced by his longtime friend Rick Dees.
The program offers three hours filled with number one hits and the stories behind them, featuring the largest variety of chart-topping songs, artist interviews, and insights into how those songs reached number one. In essence, it delivers the biggest stories behind the biggest hits. GoCountry 105.1 FM serves listeners from San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, to Santa Barbara, California, and the show is also streamed worldwide at "gocountry.am."
Parr’s passion and deep connection to country music include significant involvement with the Academy of Country Music, where he hosted the Academy’s Bash in Irvine, California in 2006.
A Southern California native, Shawn Parr grew up in Norwalk, California, attended John Glenn High School, and spent much of his youth in Orange County.
He launched his career at local dance venues before becoming the warm-up personality for the TV show "Hot Country Nights." As the announcer for the Academy of Country Music Awards, KZLA brought him on as the morning show host and later to the midday slot.
His career also includes acting roles in films such as "Lucky You" and "Waist Deep." Parr is the voice behind numerous awards shows including the Golden Globes, California Speedway, various commercial voice-overs, and has been the announcer for the American Music Awards for 16 consecutive years.
In addition, he frequently makes public appearances at venues like Cowboy Country, Montana’s, and various KKGO events. Parr serves on the Board of Directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and hosts an annual golf tournament supporting the John Tracy Clinic. An avid golfer, he has participated in the Bob Hope Classic for many years.
