Biografia
John Baxter, born on 14 December 1939 in Randwick, New South Wales, Australia, is a writer, journalist, and filmmaker originally from Australia. Having lived in Britain, the United States, and Sydney, he has resided in Paris since 1989, where he is married to filmmaker Marie-Dominique Montel. They have one daughter, Louise.
He began his science fiction writing career in the early 1960s, contributing to British magazines such as New Worlds and Science Fantasy. His debut novel was published in the United States by Ace under the title The Off-Worlders. Baxter has authored numerous short stories and novels in the science fiction genre, as well as a book about science fiction in film, and has edited collections of Australian science fiction.
In addition to his science fiction work, Baxter has written extensively on cinema, including biographies of notable film figures like Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen, George Lucas, and Robert De Niro. He has produced several documentaries, including one examining the life and art of painter Fernando Botero. Baxter also co-produced, wrote, and presented three television series for the Australian Broadcasting Commission—Filmstruck, First Take, and The Cutting Room—and served as co-editor of the ABC book program Books And Writing.
