Biografia
Marcel Romeijn was born in Leidschendam, The Netherlands, on September 12, 1979. He grew up in Niftrik, a small village near Nijmegen. As a child, he developed a passion for acting, directing his brother and sister in homemade theatre productions. After completing high school, he moved to Utrecht to study Desktop Publishing.
During his first year, he discovered a pamphlet at school announcing auditions for young actors at the Paardenkathedraal theatre company in Utrecht. Selected along with 12 other youths, this marked the beginning of his career.
After several years in theatre, Marcel landed his first film role as a body double for Luke Perry on the set of Fogbound, which was a significant experience for him.
Around age 25, he became involved with The 48 Hour Film Project Amsterdam, where he began writing and producing short films. His debut film, Cure, a spy movie, saw him take on producing, co-writing, and acting roles. Gradually, he shifted his focus from theatre to film acting.
At 27, he directed his first theatre production, "Didolaxeos," in Utrecht. Three years later, he and friends filmed a short movie on Aruba titled "Heb het Lief," directed by Jon Karthaus, based on that play.
Following this period, Marcel took a break from acting, writing, and producing, participating only in a few small film projects with friends. In 2013, he was invited to Berlin to join KinoBerlino, part of the global KinoKabaret movement. He then traveled across Europe, participating in approximately 35 KinoKabarets.
At KinoM in Munich, one of these KinoKabarets, he met his wife, Nataliya Trusova. In 2017, they returned to The Netherlands, where Marcel refocused on acting and writing. The couple married in 2019 and now live in Rotterdam, where they produce Kinoonik Holland.
Marcel has worked as an actor in short films, commercials, and TV shows throughout Europe.
