Gregg T. Daniel, a native of Brooklyn, is an actor and stage director best recognized for his recurring role as David Carter on HBO's series Insecure. He also portrayed Reverend Daniels on another popular HBO show, True Blood. With over 100 film and television credits, Gregg's work spans a wide range of genres including comedy (Hacks, Curb Your Enthusiasm, I Am Not Okay With This, Monk), drama (Good Trouble, For Life), procedurals (911, Grey's Anatomy), science fiction (Star Trek: Voyager), and children's programming (Alexa & Katie, Austin & Ally, Kickin' It). His feature film appearances include Hancock, Spider-Man 3, 7th & Union, and Truth or Dare. Notably, he starred in the acclaimed independent film 7th & Union. He is also slated to appear in the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux.
As an accomplished theater director, Gregg co-founded and serves as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles-based Lower Depth Theatre. He received an NAACP Image Award nomination for directing the Los Angeles production of Kwame Kwei-Armah's Elmina's Kitchen, which also won the NAACP Award for Best Ensemble. Gregg has directed five plays from August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Century Cycle, including Seven Guitars and King Hedley II, for A Noise Within Theatre Company in Pasadena, CA. His directorial credits further include Tom Stoppard's Heroes, Sybille Walker's Beneath Rippling Waters, Lee Blessing's Cobb, and Frank McGuinness's Someone Who'll Watch Over Me. For Theatre 150 in Ojai, California, he directed Athol Fugard's Sizwe Bansi, Diana Son's Stop Kiss, and Doug Wright's Pulitzer Prize-winning I Am My Own Wife.
Gregg has also directed and performed in numerous theater productions, such as Hamlet with the Antaeus Company and Jitney and Fences at South Coast Repertory and Pasadena Playhouse. He is preparing to direct his sixth August Wilson play with A Noise Within, the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Piano Lesson, marking the halfway point in Wilson's ten-play cycle. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts conservatory program, Gregg’s stage acting credits include the Shakespeare Center of L.A.'s Romeo & Juliet, Williamstown Theatre Festival's Back Country Crimes and Gogol, the Mark Taper Forum's Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Pasadena Playhouse's Jitney, Actors Theatre of Louisville's Master Harold, Hartford Stage Company's Peer Gynt, and South Coast Repertory's productions of A Christmas Carol, James & The Giant Peach, Fences, and Death of a Salesman.
