Since 1995, Tyron Ricketts has been an artist based in Germany, recognized as an accomplished actor, television host, filmmaker, and spokesperson. He has starred in over 25 films and appeared in 24 different television series, including a leading role as a series regular on one of Germany's highest-rated shows. His work has been featured in major newspapers, industry publications, and magazines. Due to his celebrity status, he was chosen to headline a prominent racial tolerance campaign initiated by the German government.
His recent lead role was in the acclaimed live-action short film The Roar of the Sea, which was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of ten finalists competing for a nomination in the Best Live Action Short Film category at the 84th Academy Awards on February 26, 2012. Possibly his most notable role was playing Detective Patrick Diego Grimm for three seasons on SOKO Leipzig, one of Germany’s most popular television series, drawing an average audience of over five million viewers per episode. SOKO Leipzig, a crime series, is comparable to CBS’s NCIS: Miami and NCIS: Los Angeles in the U.S. and airs on Germany’s national public broadcaster, ZDF.
Due to his prominent portrayal of Detective Grimm, Ricketts was the natural choice to lead the German government's widely publicized Respect 2010 campaign promoting racial tolerance. Having been a public figure since 1995, he has maintained consistent interest in his work and has been featured in numerous notable publications including Westdeutsch Zeitung, Ex-Berliner, Cast, Playboy, Frau Aktuell, Berliner Morgenpost, and many others both in Germany and internationally.
Gina Belafonte, producer of the HB09 documentary Sing Your Song, which profiles her famous father, has supported Tyron Ricketts in relocating to the U.S. to continue his impactful work across the Atlantic. Expanding his career as a filmmaker, Ricketts has produced and directed content for Harry Belafonte’s organization Sankofa.org and is currently engaged in other meaningful documentary projects.
