Biografia
Carly Wijs is widely recognized for her portrayal of the ex-wife from hell, Tamar Mandelbaum, in the popular RTL 4 series Divorce (2012). She also featured in the drama series Oud Geld (1998), created by Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen and screenwriter Maria Goos. Her notable roles include major parts in the telefilm Cop vs. Killer (2012) and the series Lijn 32 (2012). In 2017, she starred as one of the main characters in the Videoland series Suspects and appeared in the mini-series De Maatschap (2016).
After graduating from the Maastricht Theater Academy in 1990, Carly performed with several theatre companies such as Needcompany, Ro Theater, NTGent, De Roovers, Victoria, and Zuidelijk Toneel. With De Onderneming, she created the performances The Notebook and The Proof, which were showcased at the Edinburgh Festival, Dublin Theater Festival, and Toronto Waterfront Festival. In 2014, she wrote and directed Us/Them, performed at Brussels' Bronkstheater. Carly won the prestigious Fringe Award for this production at The Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. Us/Them has toured globally, visiting Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and Europe in 2018, and has been translated into English, French, German, Hungarian, Swedish, Turkish, and Japanese.
Carly has also appeared in various international television productions. In 1998, she participated in the American production Rescuers: Stories of Courage: Two Couples and acted alongside Ben Kingsley in the TV movie Anne Frank: The Whole Story (2001). She played a role in the TV film Brush with Fate (2003), centered on artist Johannes Vermeer, and appeared in the European co-production The Spiral (2012).
In Dutch cinema, Carly featured in the blockbuster Love Is All (2007), Dick Maas’s Quiz (2012), and Rokjesdag (2016). In 2017, she appeared in three films: Love Revisited, Love Over Distance, and Gek van geluk. Additionally, Carly has performed in numerous Dutch TV series, including Pleidooi (1993), Gooische Vrouwen (2005), De Enclave (2002), Zwarte Sneeuw (1996), Verborgen Gebreken (2009), Keyzer & De Boer Advocaten (2005), and Verliefd op Ibiza (2013).
