Bill Dow is an acclaimed actor and director, and occasional writer, with an extensive career in theatre, film, and television. Currently featured in two popular TV series, he is recognized as a versatile and in-demand performer.
On Stargate SG-1 (1997), he portrays Dr. Lee, a passionate yet sometimes slightly confused scientist dedicated to supporting the Stargate Command team. In the award-winning Canadian drama Da Vinci's Inquest (1998), he plays Russ Hathaway, the mayor of Vancouver. These roles are among many diverse characters he has brought to life across television genres, including sci-fi—such as Charles [Chuck] Burks, Agent Mulder's college friend interested in science and the occult on The X-Files (1993); prime time drama—as Mr. Parkman, a teacher on Pasadena (2001); and comedy—like Bob Fraser, the owner and bartender of "The Fraser Arms" on Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy (1998). Dow has also appeared in numerous guest and recurring roles in various TV series, Movies of the Week, and feature films, notably Legends of the Fall (1994), Mr. Magoo (1997), Andre (1994), and Absolute Zero (2006).
In theatre, Dow has directed multiple award-winning productions at the Vancouver Playhouse, where he served as Artistic Associate for many years. His directorial work includes a compelling and innovative staging of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. As a performer, he has taken on many leading roles, including David Mamet's Oleanna, and most recently earned a Jessie Award for his portrayal of Martin Dysart in Peter Shaffer's Equus. His short film, The Alley, received several award nominations and was showcased at the international short film festival in Siena, Italy.
Dow is currently completing his M.A. in Liberal Studies at Simon Fraser University.
