Jeremy Kewley, born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, began his professional acting career at 14 with The Devil's Playground (1976), directed by Fred Schepisi, which won the Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for Best Film in 1976. He then appeared as Gideon MacPherson in Mad Dog Morgan (1976) alongside Dennis Hopper and Jack Thompson.
While attending Melbourne's prestigious Haileybury College, Kewley appeared in several films and TV series in Melbourne before relocating to Sydney to star in the short-lived Arcade (1980). Despite the show's failure, it earned Kewley a following and led to numerous stage and screen roles, especially in comedy.
Back in Melbourne, Kewley spent the following decade working regularly as an actor, writer, and producer. Through his company, Pearly White Productions, he won multiple awards for television commercials, short films, and documentaries such as Funny by George: The George Wallace Story (2000) and Young Talent Time Tells All (2001).
Kewley also spent many years performing, writing, and directing comedy stage shows, establishing himself as one of Australia's leading television audience warm-up comedians. He worked on Young Talent Time (1971) during the 1980s and The Footy Show (1994) from its inception until 2015, including high-profile UK specials at the Theatre Royal in London (2001 and 2005), a World Cup special live from Munich (2006), and annual Grand Final specials before audiences of over 12,000 at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.
In 1994, Kewley landed a lead role in Janus (1994), a gritty law and order series that revived his dramatic acting career and led to recurring parts in Blue Heelers (1994) and Stingers (1998). He appeared intermittently as a Mt. Thomas journalist on Blue Heelers between 1997 and 2006. Early in 2000, he joined Stingers as Detective Senior Sergeant Bryan Gray, continuing until the series concluded in 2004. In 2007, he took on the recurring role of Adam Gardiner in McLeod's Daughters (2001), followed by roles in the comedies Very Small Business (2008) and Whatever Happened to That Guy? (2009) for Foxtel's The Comedy Channel. In 2010, he played a lead role in Underbelly Files: Tell Them Lucifer Was Here (2011) and portrayed Des 'Tuppence' Moran in Fat Tony & Co (2014).
From 2010 to 2011, Kewley toured Australia in a revival of West Side Story, then starred in stage productions of Equus, Flesh Wound, Death Of A Comedian, and Doomsday Devices between 2012 and 2014, before touring New Zealand with The Underarm.
In addition to Australian films like Amy (1997), Kewley has appeared in US productions such as Disappearance (2002), set in New Mexico, and The Extreme Team (2003), filmed in the New Zealand Alps. His recent film roles include 10Terrorists (2012); the lead role of US film producer Jerry Goldman in the comedy Frank & Jerry (2011); and Roy Rogers in The Legend Maker (2014) directed by Ian Pringle.
