Arno Hintjens was born in Ostend, Belgium, on May 21, 1949. His acting career is brief, with appearances in only three films. He made his acting debut in Skin (1987), a Belgian film directed by Guido Henderickx, for which he also composed the music. A decade later, he appeared in Camping Cosmos (1996), directed by Jan Bucquoy, a notable figure in Belgian cinema, and in _Alors voilà_ (1997), directed by Michel Piccoli. Given that Arno is primarily a rock musician, his limited acting roles are unsurprising, and he has earned greater recognition as a composer.
His first soundtrack was for the Belgian film Le concert d'un homme seul in 1978. He later composed music for several French films, including Merci La Vie (1991) and Personne ne m'aime (1994).
In 1996, Arno provided the Flemish vocals for the main songs in the Disney animated film Toy Story (1995). However, he is best known as a singer. He began his musical career in 1970 with the group Freckle Face and later formed the duo Tjens-Couter with Paul Decoutere.
In 1980, he founded the influential European band TC Matic, known for hits like "Oh la la la," "Putain putain," and "Elle adore le noir." The band disbanded in 1986 after releasing four albums. Arno's first solo album came out in 1988, followed by several others, including Ratata (1990) and Idiots savants (1993). He gained significant popularity in France with the albums Arno à la française (1995) and A poil commercial (1999). His latest album, Charles Ernest (2002), features a duet with French singer Jane Birkin and a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Mother's Little Helper." In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious French Legion d'Honneur for his career achievements. Recently, he was also granted honorary citizenship of his hometown, Ostend.
