Stephanie Erb is an American actress recognized for her performances in television, film, and theater. Raised across various locations in the United States as a university child, she was initially interested in both medicine and the arts. However, after watching Laurence Olivier’s Hamlet at age eight, she realized her true passion was acting. Her training began at The Cleveland Playhouse and continued at Southern Methodist University’s renowned Theatre Program. Upon moving to New York, she embarked on years of regional theater work, including stints at Arena Stage, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Cleveland Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Dallas Shakespeare Festival, Utah Shakespeare Festival, and a nationwide tour with John Houseman’s Acting Company performing "Two Gentlemen of Verona" and "Romeo and Juliet." She also holds degrees in English and biology.
Stephanie draws great inspiration from her parents. Her father, the late American contemporary composer Donald Erb, was a driving force behind her artistic pursuits, embodying integrity, perseverance, and compassion. Her mother, Lucille, provided unwavering support and love, enabling Stephanie to follow an unconventional career path. Throughout her journey, her parents offered a listening ear, and her accomplished father would occasionally remark, "You know, I could have been a fireman and been just as happy."
After relocating to Los Angeles, Stephanie began working in television and film and has remained active in both, while continuing to perform in theater whenever possible. Her first television role was a guest appearance on the cult classic Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). She made her film debut thanks to director Peter Weir, who cast her in Fearless (1993) alongside Jeff Bridges and Isabella Rossellini.
Her extensive career includes recurring roles on Weeds (2005), 24 (2001), and Freaks and Geeks (1999), as well as film appearances in The Ring (2002), South Dakota (2017), and Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006). Additional television credits feature recurring roles on Ray Donovan (2013), The Young and the Restless (1973), and The Fosters (2013), contributing to a resume of over 100 onscreen appearances. Stephanie has earned numerous awards for her work both on stage and screen.
As she puts it, "It's a crazy life, but someone has to do it." She embraces it with gratitude. Now based in Los Angeles, Stephanie lives with her family and two demanding chihuahuas.
