Conrad Bachmann began his acting career over forty years ago with a role in the Dobie Gillis series. Since then, he has appeared in hundreds of episodic TV shows, over four hundred commercials, twenty feature films, and numerous stage productions. Some of his most memorable film roles include Jim, the doctor in Tremors, and Secretary of Defense Wyatt in Rules of Engagement alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Kingsley, and Samuel L. Jackson. One of his most intriguing experiences was doubling and performing stunt work for Bing Crosby in the Stagecoach remake. Co-starring in Portrait of a Killer with Jack Palance and Rod Steiger was a career highlight. Mr. Bachmann has starred in three series: Tales of a Gold Monkey, Love and Honor, and had a recurring role as Commander Stone on Hunter. He also played recurring roles as Treasurer/Secretary on The West Wing and Judge Lawrence on General Hospital.
He briefly stepped away from acting to serve as President and CEO of his own advertising and marketing company, where he designed and produced numerous commercials and industrial films, and developed new products and distribution channels for manufacturers and corporations both domestically and internationally. Many products introduced by his company remain on the market today. After five years away, acting called him back, and he returned to co-star with Alan Alda in Kill Me If You Can for Columbia Studios. Since then, he has remained a full-time member of the entertainment industry.
Bachmann served eight years as a respected Governor of the Performers Peer Group for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and was recently re-elected for a two-year term. He was elected to the Academy’s Executive Committee for a one-year term and served two years on the budget committee. He also recently co-chaired the Academy’s Hall of Fame.
He chaired the Activities Committee, responsible for producing membership activity programs, overseeing two divisions: Professional Development and Entertainment. He personally produced programs such as Behind the Scenes and An Evening With. He was Chairman and Instructor of the Development & Pitch Group, which he created and designed to teach how to create, develop, and pitch concepts. Additionally, he served as Director of Workshop Studies in Performing, Writing, and Directing.
Bachmann served four years in the Air Force Special Services, touring with Tops In Blue, a special entertainment unit, throughout the United States, Korea, and Japan as a featured tap dancer and singer. He was also responsible for creating and producing monthly shows on base for service members.
He was appointed to the United States Air Force Entertainment Liaison Board, where he served for five years and has been reappointed.
Conrad also conducts instructional seminars on the art of pitching ideas to networks, independent production companies, cable networks, and at film festivals, including the Jamaican Music and Film Festival in Jamaica.
Though he has lived in California since 1957, his heart remains in Kentucky. He serves as Executive Vice President on the board of the Ned Beatty Hope for Children Classic Charity, which benefits Louisville Easter Seals. He promotes the charity year-round alongside fellow Hollywood celebrities and returns to Kentucky annually with various celebrities to fundraise for multiple charities. He also supports numerous charitable and arts organizations and educational institutions both nationally and internationally.
Among his proudest honors are the Lily Philanthropist Award from the Easter Seals of Louisville, recognition by the Stunt Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as their co-founder, and having August 20, 2004, declared Conrad Bachmann Day in Louisville, Kentucky.
Conrad founded the Louisville Film Arts Institute (LFAI), which produces the Louisville International Festival of Film (LIFF). This festival aims to be a cultural event in Louisville, bringing filmmakers worldwide to share their experiences. He launched the event with a Festival Gala honoring various film personalities in 2008.
Conrad has been married to Kate for forty years and they have a daughter, Kimberly, three sons: Mark, Scott, and Brett, and three grandchildren: Hunter, Logan, and granddaughter Hailey. He is also an Honorable Kentucky Colonel.
