Jacques Penot was born in Strasbourg, Haut-Rhin, France. At 20, he was discovered by Robert Hossein. At the time, Penot worked as a photographer for the magazine "Voile et voiliers." Hossein cast him as the lead in the theater production "Les Hauts de Hurlevent." Soon, the press and entertainment world took notice, and Jacques Penot became a prominent actor. In 1983, he appeared in Robert Enrico's film "Au nom de tous les miens," starring Michael York and Brigitte Fossey, adapted from Martin Gray's novel. The next year, he was nominated for the César Award for Most Promising Actor. He then acted alongside Annie Girardot, Claude Brasseur, Philippe Léotard, and Bruno Crémer. In 1991, on the set of "Catorce Estaciones," he met actress Geraldine Danon, who became his partner for several years. Television also took an interest in him, with roles in series such as "Sandra, princesse rebelle," "Les Cordier, juge et flic," and "Quai N° 1." However, Penot was sensitive and struggled with fame. In 1999, he made his final film appearance in "Fait d'hiver," directed by Robert Enrico. He continued acting on television until 2004, when he chose to retire from acting to focus on painting and sailing. Around this time, he married Isabelle Bich, daughter of Baron Bic, the inventor of the iconic black pen. He divided his time between Paris and Ibiza. Deeply affected by the early deaths of his wife Isabelle Bich in 2014 and close friend, former sailor Florence Arthaud in 2015, Jacques Penot died of a heart attack on December 17, 2016, at age 57. His death was announced a month later by his former partner, Geraldine Danon.
