Frank Yablans, former President of Paramount Pictures, played a key role in establishing the partnership with Universal CIC—now known as UPI—creating the most successful international film distribution company.
His five-year leadership at Paramount is often dubbed "Paramount’s Golden Years," during which he oversaw the development, production, and marketing of critically acclaimed and audience-favorite films such as The Godfather, Chinatown, Paper Moon, Serpico, Death Wish, Lady Sings the Blues, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Longest Yard. Paramount television, under his supervision, achieved success with shows like Star Trek, The Odd Couple, Mission Impossible, Love American Style, and the pilot for Happy Days.
Following his time at Paramount, Yablans pursued an independent producing career at both Twentieth Century Fox and Paramount Pictures, producing hits like Silver Streak, North Dallas Forty, Mommy Dearest, The Other Side of Midnight, The Fury, and Monsignor. He also co-wrote the screenplays for North Dallas Forty and Mommy Dearest. During this period, Yablans was appointed to rebuild MGM/UA Studio. As Co-Chairman and CEO, he streamlined operations by merging MGM and United Artists into MGM/UA, cutting overhead costs. He launched a strategic initiative to attract creative talent while managing risks in film production, distribution, and marketing. Under his leadership, MGM/UA produced and distributed a range of films with various budgets, including WarGames, Octopussy, A Christmas Story, Yentl, Hot Dog: The Movie, Breakin’, Red Dawn, Teachers, and 2010. His final independent production, Congo, made for Paramount Pictures, earned over $400 million worldwide. More recently, Yablans has concentrated on family entertainment, producing well-received titles such as A Dog of Flanders and Baby Geniuses.
Currently, Yablans serves as CEO of Promenade Pictures, producing upcoming films including The Ten Commandments, Noah's Ark: The New Beginning, and The Lamb.
