Biografia
Born in Tuscany, Italy, Luca Calvani studied textile engineering before relocating to Milan and then New York to complete his education.
While in New York City, photographer-turned-screenwriter/director Kelley Sane introduced him to acting and connected him with Ron Stetson, under whom he studied for two years. He later trained with Susan Batson and participated in sessions at the Actor's Studio.
His American debut was in the HBO series Sex and the City (1998), where he starred alongside Alan Cumming and Sarah Jessica Parker.
In Europe, he appeared in Ferzan Özpetek’s award-winning film The Ignorant Fairies (2001), also known as Le Fate Ignoranti.
Between 2001 and 2012, he worked on CBS’s daytime drama As the World Turns (1956), as well as Italian series such as Inspector Manara (2008) directed by Davide Marengo, Tutti pazzi per amore (2008) directed by Riccardo Milani, Married to a Cop (2007), Sposami (2012), and Una buona stagione (2014), all aired on the Rai Uno network.
He also hosted the prime-time talk show Effetto sabato (2008) on Rai Uno.
His film credits include Fausto Brizzi's Men vs Women (2010), Tom Tykwer's action thriller The International (2009), Woody Allen's To Rome with Love (2012), Mark Steven Johnson's When in Rome (2009), and the indie feature The Good Guy (2009) directed by Julio DePietro.
In September 2013, he joined Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Debicki when he was cast by Guy Ritchie as the villainous Alexander Vinciguerra. He later starred opposite Piotr Adamczyk and Torsten Voges in the German-Polish thriller Wrobiony (2016) directed by Piotr Smigasiewicz.
A traveler and entrepreneur, in the fall of 2014 Calvani launched Inspiritu, a line of fine fragrance candles.
Calvani is trilingual, fluent in French and English in addition to his native Italian.
He resides in Camaiore at Le Gusciane, a Tuscan country estate where he produces organic gin and honey.
His directorial debut, Il cacio con le pere (2023), is scheduled for release later this year.
