Martin Thompson is an acclaimed American actor working in film, television, and theater, based in Los Angeles. He started his career in New York, training at HB Studio under the renowned Uta Hagen, then gained experience in daytime TV and performed extensively on the New York stage. He has appeared in over a hundred stage productions both in New York City and at regional theaters across the country, including the prestigious Barter Theatre, Theatre in the Square, and the American Theatre of Actors.
In film, Thompson has acted alongside notable stars such as Kevin Costner in The New Daughter (2009), Paul Rudd in Wanderlust (2012), and Colin Firth in Main Street (2010), which was Horton Foote’s final screenplay. He also featured in the Mandie franchise, working with Dean Jones and Hayley Mills in Mandie and the Secret Tunnel (2009) and Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure (2010). His television appearances include roles on NCIS: Los Angeles (2009), Criminal Minds (2005), Scorpion (2014), Comedy Bang! Bang! (2012), Uncle Buck (2016), and opposite Jane Seymour in Hallmark’s Lake Effects (2012).
Born in Virginia, Thompson’s family relocated to California shortly after his birth due to his father’s Navy career, resulting in frequent moves between the East and West Coasts. He spent much of his youth moving between Virginia, California, Florida, and North Carolina, where he earned a BFA in Theatre from East Carolina University, before relocating to New York to pursue acting professionally. His mother was a Peabody-trained lyric soprano from a family of musicians and singers. His brother Dan is a film producer, and his brother Timothy Thompson is a BMI Award-winning composer. Martin has two children: a son named Steven and a daughter named Kathleen.
